One of the best ways to introduce color to a room is with pillows. Seems easy right? Anyone can throw a few pillows onto a chair or sofa, but to make a room flow, or better yet pop, we often hesitate to step out of our comfort zone, especially using anything too bright or colorful.
Here are some simple steps to achieve that look you want:
Choose pillows that either blend or stand out, offering a nice contrast to your sofa or chairs. A starting point for sofas, would be to choose two different pillows and use two of one and one of the other. Here, you see the owner chose a patterned pillow in the same color as the sofa, but popped it with the orange.
There is no reason you can’t use two and two – here you see two print pillows along with two solid:
When using mixtures of texture, pattern and color, make sure they compliment each other, but don’t be afraid to experiment:
Pillows of the same shades as your furniture, should have visual interest with texture and/or pattern:
There really is no right or wrong, but sometimes one can get carried away… although these pillows are beautiful soft pastels, there are a bit too many for most individuals and when sitting on this sectional, pillows would need to moved.
The same goes for chairs, especially when decorating with two matching chairs. You can use two of the same pillow,
or two different pillows that blend. If your pillows are to bring out color in the room, choose an accent color from a Decorative accessory, such as a colored vase, artwork, pottery etc., to pop the room. And yes, you can use more than one pillow on a chair.
Lastly, think about having two sets of pillows, one for the winter months to add warmth to the room, and one set that is conducive to Spring Summer! Changing your accent pillows is an easy way to refresh your décor and set the tone for the season.
Pillows are great accents for a room, and are also meant for comfort, so plan accordingly!
